| Wine Notes: | This excellent wine is a relatively good value for the quality. Intense aromas of berry, spice and pepper follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a rich finish. Best after 2004. 5,800 cases made. (Wine Spectator, October 15, 2003). Comments on 1998 vintage: Tasting note: Solid ruby-garnet. Full, intense aromas of sweet plum and cassis, with a light oak spiciness. Voluminous and long in flavor, with the tannins adding vigor and texture. Substantial finish features good grip. With the 1998 vintage, only one Carmignano will be made; the Riserva has been abolished. Score – 90. (Daniel Thomases, International Wine Cellar, July/Aug. 2000) Food match: grilled calf's liver.
