1999Cline Cellars CaliforniaZinfandel  7.99/10 SRP0/1  87/100;86/100
14.0% alc; Best Buy 86: Lively in the mouth, with flavors of raisins, dried currants and roasted herbs, highlighted by modest tannins. A very good Zin at a hard-to-argue-with price. Drink now through 2005. 86,000 cases made. (WS, 5-15-2001,-JL); Best Buy 87: Full dark berry aromas and flavors and classic pepper accents mark this very likeable wine. Cocoa and meaty elements add a bit of complexity not necessarily expected at this price. Kept lively by its brisk, but not sharp acidity, it finishes peppery with a tart-sweet profile. This straightforward, delicious wine exemplifies how competitive California can still be, despite the trend to priciness. — W.E. (3/1/01)

1986Concannon Vineyard Livermore Valley AssemblageWhite Wine   0/12
Assemblage is a blend of two estate grown wines, semillon and sauvignon blanc, whose virtues are enhanced by selecting the most complementary lots and blending them in optimum proportions. A winemaking task in its purest art form. The 1986 vintage of assemblage is 55% sauvignon blanc and 45% semillon. A wine of impressive character; generous in its amplitude of aroma and flavor; full-bodied with a long and smooth finish. Its elegance and finesse are a distinction of our estate vineyards famous gravel. Elegant now and due to fine balance will enjoy great longevity. Bottled in 1988 and cellar aged at the winery.

13.0 % alc; 81/100: Bright cherry red with purple highlights. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Moderately oaked. Mildly tannic. Cassis, vanilla, earth. Toasted oak aromas with ripe berry accents. Rounded, supple and hedonistic varietal flavors and sweet vanilla notes on the finish. (BTI, tasted on 08/11/1998). 81/100: Pale cherry red hue. Perfumed, markedly spicy aromas show an marked oak accent. A bright attack leads to a medium-bodied palate with juicy black cherry fruit flavors and spicy oak notes throughout. Drink now. (BTI: tasted on 01/29/1999, $18 SRP)
Ready to drink now, very good cherry flavor, soft tannins, very good nose (11-18-01). Even better (5-2003).
